Open forging is a metal forming process that involves applying an external force to a metal billet using a simple general-purpose tool or directly between the upper and lower anvils of the forging equipment, causing it to deform to obtain the desired geometry and internal mass. This process allows the metal to be freely deformed in all directions without restriction to meet specific mechanical property standards. In the free forging process, the blank is a free surface except for the part of the surface that comes into contact with the upper and lower anvil irons or other auxiliary tools.
Free forging is a processing method that uses impact force or pressure to make the metal freely deform in all directions between the upper and lower anvil surfaces, and obtain the required shape and size and certain mechanical properties without any restrictions, referred to as open forging. The basic processes include upsetting, lengthening, punching, cutting, bending, twisting, staggering and forging. Open forging mainly uses hot forging.
