What are the technical requirements for die forgings?
2023-08-24
The technical requirements for the surface of die forgings, including surface roughness and surface defects. Forgings in the forging process, due to the surface metal is oxidized, foreign matter embedded, uneven metal flow, uneven mold surface, silver after the auxiliary process improper and other factors, will make the forging surface showing peaks and valleys and uneven micro-geometric features, this feature is generally expressed by roughness.
Compared with the machined surface, the surface roughness of die forgings is not uniform, and different parts of the same forging and different forgings of the same batch will have great differences. Because the surface of the forging is the result of the metal pressure filling groove, unlike the extrusion method used in machining. The metal is stripped off, so the uneven transition on the surface is relatively gentle, and the peaks and valleys are mostly obtuse angles.
The surface defects of forgings are more, and the shape of recesses is more point-like holes, which is confused with macro-surface pits. There is no formal standard for the surface roughness of die forgings. In general, the surface roughness of the machined surface and the normal non-machined surface are not specified, but the surface of the fine forging should generally be specified.
Surface defects of die forgings include cracks, folds, wrinkles, pits, bumps, pinholes, etc. Part of it is due to the heating temperature is too high or corroded, so that the material is damaged and some abnormal signs are presented on the surface of the die forging, or due to operational reasons, forging design and improper defects, generally can not rely on corrective treatment to save, so these defects are called not allowed defects. Other defects caused by mechanical reasons are allowed to exist as long as they are excluded or can be confirmed to have no impact on the parts.
